Week01: The Door Problem

Game design is an industry with many roles and responsibilities. As a solo game maker, for now, I had the opportunity to try many different roles in game production. For instance, environmental artist, animator, composer, programmer, level designer, and more. Almost all of the skills needed to complete a game. Personally, the role of composer and character artist sound the best to me. I enjoy music very much myself and have always noticed the importance of sounds in a game. It amplifies the gameplay and intrigues players to dive deeper into its own story. When I try to create music regarding a type of emotion, I find it challenging yet enjoyable. For a character artist, I would say it is the best role in game production, having the ability to give a character its fruitful personality and backstory.

I think none of the roles are easy and boring. On the contrary, they are all very challenging and exciting to me. However, I do find the role of a writer a hard one. To me, it is a big role responsible for the creation of the world view and sometimes dialogue of a story. What are valid and what are not? I often find it a tough job as I am not very sure how I can make this part intriguing so it gives the player a better experience and a better knowledge of what the game is about. I don't think a game should purely rely on only one part of it. Thus, besides game mechanics or an uncluttered system, the power of words should also be something that creators can input more effort into.
